The Canyons Ski Resort
The Canyons Ski Resort is Utah’s largest ski resort with 3700 acres of skiable terrain is less than 34 miles from the Salt Lake International Airport, which definitely makes it an easy choice for Park City’s Quick Start Program. You can land in the morning and be cruising down one of the Canyons 163 runs in the afternoon soaking up the sun and the magnificent views. (Check out www.parkcityinfo .com for all the details on their Fly and Ski Free offer.)
The mountain (or mountains, since The Canyons has eight of them) offers a variety of skiing and boarding options that should appeal to just about everyone. You can cruise down Aspen and Pine laden trails or enjoy one of the five bowls. There are two terrain parks for those that want to show off their skills and six natural half pipes. It is easy to get away from the crowd and ski untracked slopes (especially important on a powder day). Locals know that the farther you spread out from the center the more untracked trails you are going to find.
219 White Pine Canyon Road is located on the far side of The Canyons Ski Resort. This means that you can cut first tracks and see minimal numbers skiers during the ski day ... especially in the afternoon as the day skiers head back to the resort center at the end of the day. Living in The Colony is almost like having your own private resort.
For daily skiers, The Flight of the Canyons Gondola drops you off next to the Red Pine Lodge the most popular eating spot on the mountain. They offer both indoor and outdoor patio dining. From here you can plot your course and take off. If members of your party want to go different directions this is a great place to meet up.
Other restaurants on the mountain include The Sun Lodge located at the base of the Sunpeak Express lift, Lookout Cabin at the top of the Golden Eagle lift, and two grills, one at the base of the Tombstone lift and another at the base of Dreamscape. Of course there are many more eating options at the resort base, but who has time for eating when there are mountains to be conquered.
